New Historical Novel Brings 1919 Cleveland to Life in ‘Her Own Country’

CLEVELAND  |  September 24, 2026 — 40 Seasons Press is proud to announce the publication of Her Own Country, a new historical fiction novel by Cleveland author James C. Sulecki.

Set in 1919 in Cleveland and inspired by real historical events, Her Own Country is a sweeping novel of Irish immigration, the Great Steel Strike of 1919, and the Irish War of Independence. The story follows Irish immigrant siblings John and Moira Conway as they arrive in America, only to meet a series of unforeseen events and misfortunes that cause Moira to choose between the life expected of her in America and returning to a homeland fighting for its freedom.

“Though set in the past, Her Own Country has themes that still resonate today, including worker unrest, gun violence, the ongoing question of Irish unification, and a questioning of the American dream,” Sulecki said.

Her Own Country is available starting September 24 in paperback and e-book formats through major online retailers including Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
